Leadership in action!

Our Preschool and Nursery School spent a week learning about a Farmer’s Market. Each class created a different ware to sell at the market. They made noodle necklaces, bead bracelets and necklaces, cookies, soap, lemonade, pinch pots, bookmarks and popsicle stick bird feeders. The students did most of the work themselves. As a culmination project, they created their own market.  In the morning, each class set up their “booth” with their wares. One Primary Care Group manned the booth while the other group went shopping. Then they switched.

Each student had play money with which to buy different items. They had to make decisions over which items they wanted the most as they only had three bills to spend and nine booths to visit. Students examined the items with care to see if it were something they wanted. This event also gave students an opportunity to interact with different age groups. Our Pre-K students experienced the greater LeafSpring School at Wyndham community as they intermingled with toddlers and infants. They learned that they had to be patient when the younger classes came to purchase items from their booth. All our students were excited to purchase products the other classes created.

This project supports two of our literacies from our INSPIRED curriculum: Entrepreneurial and Financial. Entrepreneurial teaches the students about taking risks, being patient and persevering. Financial instructs them about the understanding of money and how to be responsible with it. This market was a great way to promote those ideas and teach our students that they are able to accomplish anything when they work hard.
